Baby Shower cookies! July 29, 2009

After the gym today, I helped Kelly decorate some sugar cookies that she baked for a baby shower this week.

We had a lot of fun being creative! Kelly did an awesome job on the cookies and the frosting...they tasted just like the one's Laurie Van Mondfrans use to make! Yummy!

Austin and Michael occupied their time played video games while we were busy decorating and tasting cookies.

Austin loses another front tooth. July 25, 2009

Austin gets so excited when a tooth starts to get loose and wiggle! He will use his tongue, and play with it for days. Chuck will offer to "yank" it out, and Austin always tells him, No! Austin gets worried when it bleeds to much...see that worried look! Here's one more tooth for the tooth fairy.

Look at that toothless smile...priceless!

Chuck goes to Vegas to see the Hintons. July 17-19, 2009

Steve & Dawn Hinton, at the Las Vegas Nevada Temple. Chuck was so excited to get the call that the Hinton's were getting sealed in the Las Vegas Nevada Temple. Austin and I were in Seattle, visiting my Mom, so Chuck went up to Vegas to be part of this great day with their family.

Here is a photo of the whole family! I'm sure I am spelling half the names wrong, but here goes: Chris, Gavin, Karas, Kaylen, Jayden, (Ashton), Jershon, Dareon, and Alexa, finally a girl which they had just before they left. The great thing about it, is that Ryan got to stand in for their son Ashton, who was 2, and passed away a few years ago.

Here is a picture of all those who attended the temple with the Hinton's. Chuck is standing on the right hand side with Ryan and Elena, and Tod is standing on the left hand side. It has been a long and bumpy journey for this family to reach the temple, but it is amazing how they made some changes and followed the Lords plan...which makes everything possible! We are so happy for them!

Visit to Grandma Rose & Grandpa Scott. July 12-21, 2009

Austin and I arrived this afternoon, and when we got to Grandma's house, we meet the new kitty Mom found! Mom was in the back yard, when she heard a little kitten meowing. She hunted around and found him, in the tall grass, in Barnes back yard. He must of been abandoned, no Mom cat in site. Mom had to get a little bottle, and some kitten formula so that she could feed him. He was a lot smaller than this when she found him.

Austin had a great time playing with the "Kitty." The weather is only in the 60's and raining, but it's suppose to be sunny Wednesday and Thursday and in the 80's! The premiere of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince just came out. Cory saw it in Provo with his friend. And down in Houston, Kelly got together with some friends and went to the midnight showing...I wish I could of been there. Here in Bellingham, it was all sold out for Monday, so Mom, Scott, Austin and I are going to see it tomorrow at 1220pm so that should be fun. Chuck said he was going to go later in the week and see it.

While we were up here, we had a nice visit with Grandma Asplund. She seems to be doing pretty good. The sore on her bum is still not healed completely, but she says that she's not to uncomfortable.

During our visit, Austin was being very silly around her, it made Grandma smile.

I really think that Scott enjoys feeding the kitty too! Kitty likes to curl up with Scott and take a nap.

Austin was so excited to see Beasley again. The poor dog is so tired by the time Austin goes to bed at night!

On Wednesday, we went to go and check out the cabin. The grass was waist high, and in the middle of the yard, the grass was all patted down; you could tell that the deer are making this place their home. I have my work cut out for me!

My job is to cut away some of those bushes in front of the shed.

The front yard wasn't to bad!

The rest of the yard is going to take a bit of work to cut it all down! I hired the teenager, that lives next door to Mom, to do that. I helped him a bit, but then I went to work on the bushes in the back of the cabin.

Here is a picture of Grandma Rose. She helps out a friend at one of the gas stations in Lynden a day or two during the week.

An awesome view of Mt. Baker.

Here is a view of the beach at Birch Bay. Austin loves to go down on the beach and throw rocks in the water. He is also getting a bit braver now that he is 6...when the tide is out, he will walk out more than a few feet now, by himself!

My main reason for coming up here, was to get someone to fix the cabin floor in the bathroom. Our last tenants were unaware of a leak from the washer/dryer...it seems to have pooled around the commode! Chuck took the toilet off the floor, and the handyman will put it all back together again!

On Friday, it was such a beautiful day that Austin and I went to Lake Padden. It is one of my favorite places in town. If I could pick anywhere to build a house, this would be the place. To bad it's a protected City Park!

Austin had fun chasing a Mom duck and her babies. It was a good thing the water was so cold, it slowed Austin down a bit.

The next day, We meet Dad and Grandma Asplund for dinner. Grandpa Asplund looks really good after his hip surgery. He said he was healing really well. Grandma is so funny, I asked her where she wanted to go for dinner, and she wanted a hamburger and chocolate shake from McDonald's...Austin liked that! Funny story...we got Grandma seated and ordered our food, guess what? The milk shake machine was broken! For heavens sake, she's in her 80's and all she wants is a chocolate milkshake. After deliberating with Dad, we got the manager to put some vanilla ice cream in a cup and added some chocolate fudge to it...we stirred, and stirred it....VOILA! Chocolate milkshake! Apparently it was pretty good, she never said a word about it.

One of the things Austin likes best about Grandma and Grandpa's house are all the trees he can climb. Here he is playing in the front yard, by the apple tree, playing with his bow and arrow.

7/18 We went out to Samish Island to see Scott's sister, Fran. Crab season had just begun, and she shared her bounty with the whole family. Thought of Ashlie, she liked crab almost as much as I do! Austin had a great time throwing anything in the water.

Austin took a picture of me near the water.

A sail boat on the water with the foothills (mountains if your from Houton) in the background.

A picture of Fran and Mom up on the deck, with family. you can see Mt. Baker in the background, a different side of it.

Fran's daughter Peggy, and Scott off to the right.

On Monday it was a perfect day to go to Bloedel Donovan Park. Austin was so excited to go swimming!

The two pictures above are of Austin getting on a floatie to lounge on, after a few tries he did it!

Austin took a picture of me sunbathing on the blanket. After I warmed up a bit, I went for a swim with Austin. We swam to the logs bordering the swimming area and jumped off! Austin also jumped off the pylons remaining from the docks that use to be in the swimming area. It took me another hour to warm up enough to go in again later.

While Austin was warming up on the blanket, he noticed that kids were jumping off of this street bridge, into the water. I told him he was not old enough to do that, but that we could both get on the floatie and paddle over there to watch the kids jump. Man...the water was cold, but we paddled over, and went under the bridge, and watched the kids jump for a bit. Then we went back to the blanket to warm up again! Mom came by for a bit after work, and sat on the blanket with us. Boy, that brings back old memories of going up there as a kid. And we probably laid on the same blanket! We had a fun time on our visit. Grandma was a bit stressed out this time, because she has been taking care of Scott, the dogs, the house, and yard all by herself for the last 8 weeks, so she is very tired. Scott just had foot surgery. I don't think that she was very excited to see us, but we were able to take Scott around and I made dinner a few nights, so I think that helped her out a bit. Austin can't wait to come back again!

Philips Wedding. July 10-12, 2009

Chuck and I were so excited to be able to attend Philips wedding, in the Columbia River Washington Temple. The closest airport was Portland, Oregon and then we drove 3 hours on Hwy 84, to Richland Washington. It was a beautiful ride for about an hour, that's when it started to get dark, and I mean really dark! The freeway followed the Columbia River for quite a while, and we saw a few dams on the river, the Columbia forms part of the Washington-Oregon border. We arrived a little late, but me made it! On Saturday morning we meet the Roberts at their hotel for breakfast so that we could see Philip for a few minutes before it got to crazy. Philip looked so handsome, but he sure was nervous! He ran off for pictures, and we go to visit with Anita and Frank for a bit. After breakfast, Chuck, Austin, I went for a stroll in the park next to the hotel. It was a beautiful summer day, and the park is right on the river.

Austin went right to the beach below to throw rocks into the river.

Dad and Austin on the park bench.

Austin up in one of the huge trees in the park....I love Washington!

The Roberts family, (all but 1!) and the rest of the wedding party got together in the stake center just before the wedding for pictures. It was wonderful to have the stake center right next door to the Temple. The YW in the stake offered to watch all the Roberts grandchildren, during the sealing, and Anita was very sweet and invited Austin to stay with them and play. I didn't think I would be able to attend the sealing, so that was a wonderful surprise. Here is a picture of Tyler, Chuck, and Brent in the stake center, before the ceremony

Philip and his bride, Jenepher, after the ceremony.

Frank & Anita, Scott and his family, Philip and Jenepher, and Chuck just outside the temple, after the ceremony.

Chuck, Tyler, and Brent in front of the temple. A few hours later, we meet up with Anita and Frank, and some of the wedding party and had lunch together. It was nice just to sit and chat with everyone again...I still miss having them live down the street from us!

It was about 90 degrees outside at 6pm, and they had their reception by a rose garden in one of the parks. It had a big gazebo, where the family had their reception line, it was really nice, but very hot!

We stayed at the reception for about 30 minutes and were able to congratulate Philip and Jenepher.

Here is another picture of Tyler and Brent, I know that these guys were on the verge of sweating!

Austin had a great time walking around the garden with he Robert's grand kids. We then had to head back to the airport in Portland so that Chuck could catch a red eye to Houston. The drive back to Portland was beautiful. We still had a few hours of daylight, and were able to see a lot more on the ride back to the airport. Chuck was able to catch his plane home, and Austin and I stayed in a hotel so that we could catch a morning flight to Seattle, and on to Bellingham to see Grandma Rose and Grandpa Scott for a few days.

New Dryer....it matches the washer! 4th July 2009.

This morning we went to the 4th of July Ward Breakfast, and afther that we went and bought a dryer...it matches our washer! The dryer broke last month, 5 days before we went on our vacation to Greece. I had to give the washer/dryer thier own page, it is the first time I've had a matching set. I know it's crazy to be so excited about it, but I am!

The 4th of July 'Ward Breakfast' 2009!

Saturday morning was the ward annual '4Th of July Breakfast'. The Bishopric did a great job at making pancakes and sausage for us this year...it was yummy!

The kids quickly ate, so that they could get outside to ride their bikes.

Brother Anthon handed out balloons to the kids.

Brother Aitken helped the boys get ready for the flag ceremony.

The ward then gathered to say, "The Pledge of Allegiance."

Then the kids got their bikes to start the parade. It was pretty hot for a parade, so it didn't last as long as usual, just a few laps around the parking lot.

Austin decorated his bike for the occasion.

It was a fun, but hot morning to hang out with friends, Marie and Jennifer.

After the breakfast we went to Lowe's to get a new dryer, and then we took Michael and Austin to the Anthons to swim in their pool for a bit. Later that evening, at 6pm we went over to the Corringtons for a 4Th of July picnic with some other families in the ward. We had BBQ chicken, fruit, beans, salsa, and dessert...everything was great!

I made a yummy 4Th of July cake to celebrate red, white, and blue. I made it with angel food cake, homemade strawberry jam (made that afternoon....strawberries were on sale for 99 cents) homemade whip cream, strawberries and blueberries....it turned out really good...watch out food network!!

Jennifer made a 4Th of July cake with some sparklers on top!

After the BBQ most of the families went to watch some fireworks, at a church nearby, but we came home home so that Chuck and Austin could do a few fireworks before bedtime! I know that was Austin's favorite part of the day!

Another year to celebrate this great country that we live in!
